In this role, you’ll be responsible for preparing nutritious and balanced meals for Tamariki under 5 in a safe and hygienic environment.  This role is 37.5 hours a week (7.30am – 3.30pm Monday – Friday) and would suit someone with experience cooking delicious and healthy food in bulk.

There’s space here for you to transform our menus – whether it's healthy eating, garden to table or a particular area you excel in – you’ll have a chance to really make this role your own. We have great facilities and a team of people who love what they do, so you’ll be able to use your expertise in a meaningful way every day. There will be some light housekeeping duties included in the role.

  • Food Safety: Follow strict food safety and hygiene rules, including correct food storage and handling.
  • Inventory Management: Keep track of supplies, order what’s needed, and ensure the kitchen is well-stocked.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the kitchen tidy and clean all utensils and equipment properly.
  • Communication: Work with Kaiako (Teachers) to understand children's food needs and make mealtimes enjoyable.
  • Education: Teach children about healthy eating and encourage them to try different foods.

Background and Experience:

  • Previous experience in cooking or food preparation, preferably in an early childhood or aged care setting.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and dietary needs for young children.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, and autonomously in a kitchen alone
