At Little Wonders Glendowie, we understand the importance of the first five years in shaping a strong foundation for lifelong learning.  We are guided by our principles of ‘Giving the freedom to learn’ and embodying a fresh, open-minded approach to learning.  Located in a beautiful leafy green suburb close to the beach and a nearby reserve, our centre offers a spacious, well-equipped environment where children can thrive. We’re also developing a garden that will allow our new Centre Cook to create garden-to-table meals with fresh, healthy ingredients.

Working 25 hours over 5 days, Monday – Friday, you will join a passionate team of educators and support staff in making a difference in the lives of tamariki every day. As our new cook, you will be at the heart of our centre, with the kitchen at your disposal. Our tamariki are looking for someone who will make delicious food that they will enjoy, and they love it when you talk to them about what you’re doing in the kitchen (and we love that you give them the fuel they need to get them through their busy day)

In this role, you will be responsible for the complete management of the kitchen including:

• Stock control and ordering.
• Engagement with children and teachers at mealtimes.
• Managing multiple different dietary requirements.
• Cleanness of the kitchen area.
• Menu planning.

What are we looking for in you?

• You have menu preparation experience and ideally hold a current Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate (ideal, but not essential)
• You can confidently follow food compliance regulations and undertake the associated paperwork and training.
• You ideally also have experience cooking for large groups (previous experience in an early childhood centre would be advantageous but is not essential)
• You are a passionate and intuitive cook, open and responsive to the constantly changing needs of our tamariki.
• You have an interest in sustainability, and love making fresh, healthy food with locally sourced and seasonal ingredients.
• You are comfortable working autonomously and as part of a team (your day will encompass both).
• You have strong written and spoken English language skills.
